This page is really an homage to those old masters who still inspire me -- Virgil Finlay, Frank R. Paul, Kelly Freas, Ed Emsh, Hannes Bok, Chesley Bonestell and all the others. Long may you run!

Naturally, you can click on a small one to get a big one.

This is the Scaly Walker. He owes his scales to Robert Steel, whose web site has some wonderful monster icons for the Mac. The small machine in the corner is a caltrop, and you'll see more of them here.

The large structure is a kronos module; 50's movie fans will recognize the name. They are a necessary component in the terraforming process, which is beginning on the parched landscape below. More on the C57-D later.

A remarkable aspect of raytracing is the ability to change the point of view. This is the same scene, but from a different (very different!) vantage point.

All sorts of things happen to caltrops. They investigate, collate, and relay information, occasionally making new acquaintances.

The full view of the title image for this page. The featured star is a rendering of my conception of HG Wells' Martian War Machine, transplanted to my raytracing universe. Now you can see how much detail can be put into one of these.

Some designs are so strong they define a class; the Fender Stratocaster, for example. Such is the C57-D, the flying saucer in Forbidden Planet. For me, there is no other!

In This Island Earth the enemy Zagons use natural galactic objects as weapons, towing them with their triangular ships. Here's my take on a Zagon ship.
