Suppressed Information |
This web page provides information about the webmaster.
The webmaster is deeply concerned about preserving the world's natural resources and environment. On a personal level, the webmaster does what he can do to recycle and use energy wisely. During the year 2002 his diet has become increasingly plant based (and less meat based). Besides having health benefits, it also helps the environment. That is because fewer crops need to be grown (and thus less fossil fuels used in farm equipment and fuel transportation), if people consume vegetation directly rather than consuming animals. That is because animals (like people) need to consume a lot of food just to maintain their weight. If livestock herds were much smaller (due to people eating less meat), then less crops would be required. More crops would also be available for renewable biofuels (such as ethanol and biodiesel fuels), thus reducing the need for fossil fuels.
Through conservation the webmaster has reduced electricity consumption for his internet based home business to about 3 to 4 kW-Hr/day, despite having electric baseboard heating! He would be glad to provide energy conservation tips to anyone who is interested. Some of the energy conservation tips are now posted at the section of the website called "Energy Conservation & Fuel Economy".
Since March 2002, all of the electricity purchased for the webmaster's business and home is being generated from renewable energy! In addition, salmon habitat restoration is being provided for! This is because the webmaster signed up for Portland General Electric's (PGE's) Green Energy power option program. PGE is purchasing the energy from Green Mountain Energy. All of the electricy produced in the option is produced by geothermal (85%) and wind (15%). In this plan, funds are also being provided to For Sake of the Salmon, to restore salmon fish habitats. The webmaster also uses a solar electric panel to power a fluorescent lamp and B&W TV at his home. The panel is the same brand and model as one of the ones sold on his website.
Since the spring of 2002, the webmaster is doing more walking for trips of under one mile (and thus less driving). Since August 2002, the webmaster has taken up bicycling for frequent two mile trips, instead of driving. For somewhat longer trips, the webmaster is considering the purchase of an electric scooter. These actions conserve fossil fuel resources and reduce pollution (since cars are less efficient and produce more pollution while the engines are warming up during short trips - and the resulting pollution is concentrated in the local neighborhood). The increased exercise also has many direct health/fitness benefits. Readers of this website are encouraged to look at ways they can likewise help the environment and improve their health.
The webmaster's business is a Distinguished Member of the Business Recycling Awards Group (BRAG).
