USA Adoption of Metric System Needed

In support of the Metric System, THE international system of measurement, the creator of this web site urges all USA businesses and residents, particularly renewable energy businesses, to adopt the metric system. The US Customary system of measurement is complicated, antiquated, and now an outdated system of measurement derived from imperial England. Even England and the rest of the United Kingdom have already adopted the metric system as their official system of measurement and it is time for the USA to do so as well.

Only the USA, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and Liberia have not made the metric system their official system of measurement! The failure of the USA to thus far officially adopt the metric system, hinders USA exports. By the year 2010 the European Union will no longer allow any imports of products labeled with US customary units, only metric units will be allowed on the labels. It will be costly for USA companies to use one set of units on exports and another set of units on domestic products. This is more costly because such businesses will need to keep two separate sets of inventories for the same merchandise, one set with US units on the package and one set with metric only units on the package. This increases inventory costs. The USA needs to transition to metric now if it wants to continue to cost effectively compete in the global marketplace.

USA students spend an excessive amount of time doing math problems in the cumbersome US inch-pound-gallon units. Teaching them to do math only in metric units frees up time for the students to be learning more advanced mathematics. Why hold the students back by requiring them to do nearly all math problems in the cumbersome units? The students can still be taught the inch-pound-gallon units, but teachers should not spend any more time on it than the time currently spent teaching the metric system in USA schools. Metric should become the predominate system of measurement taught in USA schools.

For more information about the need for the USA to adopt the metric system, and tools to aid the transition, visit the U.S. Metric Association (USMA), Inc. web site and visit Thoughts on the Metric and English.

Metric Time Proposal

I also propose metric time, an idea I thought of back in the late 1979 when I was 14 years old though I have not publicized it until 2003 October 18th according to Gregorian calendar. At least one other person (in the "What Dime Is it?" web site) has the same idea as mine for the time division, but my naming of the time units uses the same convention of the metric prefixes. Apparently the The French Revolutionary Time used the same time units though perhaps with different names (see "The French Revolutionary calendar" and "French Revolutionary Time" web sites). Further my metric time proposal would also revise the number of degrees from 360 to a number more compatible with he metric time units. I will elaborate on that matter later.

The time units would be as follows:

I know the metric time proposal will not likely get adopted since even the French abandoned the same idea, but it would still make time calculations much simpler. Maybe it would be adopted in scientific circles.
