It's...
Alexandre Muñiz's Web Thing.
I made this with the GIMP, a very
cool open source graphics program for Linux and other Unix like systems. Note: I am not really a floating torso.
Here are some categories of things I'm interested in:
- Interactive Fiction
- Also known as Text Adventures. I wrote one. It was fairly well received.
- Mathematical Recreations
- I'm fascinated with puzzles using polyominoes.
- Character Input Hacking
- Having an "ñ" in my last name has made me interested in methods of inputting characters that that aren't on my keyboard. I taught myself a good bit about programming with gtk on my Linux box by writing a Character Picker applet for the gnome panel. More recently I wrote a gtk+ input method that covers an wide range of unicode characters via compose sequences. It's part of the gtk-im-extra project.
- Choral Music
- At the moment (September 2007) I'm rehearsing for the Portland Christmas Revels. I sing with the Sherwood Renaissance Singers at various renaissance faires in Oregon and Washington during the summer. I've also sung with the Marylhurst University Concert Chorale and the Sherwood Chorale in recent years.
I've written a choral setting of an Edna St. Vincent Millay poem. I'm hoping some day I'll be able to convince the director of some group I'm in to perform it.

- Really Old Pages
- The extremely old pages for some of my creative endeavors in college and shortly after are still here, but I've moved them to the attic so as to keep them from cluttering my home page.
I enjoy Irish céilí and set dancing. If you're in the Portland area and interested in Irish social dancing, check out the Portland Céilí Society site. And if you go to one of the Third Friday Céilís in Portland, and see a guy wearing shorts and leggings, that's probably me. Say hi.
I graduated from Whitman College in the spring of 1996. I'm currently underemployed, and looking for a programming job, preferably using Linux.
