Nobody I know, and a couple are pretty expert, seems to know who this gorgeous pink might be. As you can see from the date, it blooms quite late. What you can't tell, until we get "smell-o-web", is the wonderfully sweet fragrance it has—one of the best in elepidotes. One might expect R fortunei parentage, but I have yet to find a six-lobed blossom. | |||

This close-up shows there are just a few yellowish spots in the throat, and the pale, whitish star in each blossom. It might have shown-up better on an overcast day, but even Portland gets sun once in a while in June! Maybe a light grey background here will help. If you think you know who this is, please send me e-mail. |

For scale, this is Smitty's hand holding one of the blossoms. There are probably three or four trusses in this bunch—this plant isn't stingy about blooming! I confess I haven't been able to resist hybridizing this wonderful rhody, so it would really be nice to know what it is for registration purposes. Do you recognize this beauty? |

Here's a view of the full plant. It isn't small. I'm standing in front, and I'm 6'2". We're not sure exactly how old it is. |
