Fixing it in the Mix & Sweetening

• “Don’t worry, we’ll fix it in the mix.”

  • The too-common cry of the director who is out of time.

• Some things CAN be fixed...

  • Generally, things can be ADDED
  • Synchronous things (especially dialogue) are difficult to add. A missed part in a live music production is also very difficult to add.

• Some CAN’T be fixed...

  • Things are usually difficult to REMOVE

• “Track Sweetening”

  • A Hollywood euphemism for adding canned laughter and applause.
