Miking vs. Feed

• Miked instruments

  • Acoustic (obviously!)
  • Instrument speaker - If feed is not available or if processing is done after feed point.

• Direct Instrument Feed

  • Use “Direct Box” or transformer at instrument or amp
  • After all processing
  • Requires mixing into the complete sound track as for mic.

• Direct Mix Feed

  • Performer’s audio person provides direct signal from their mixer board.
  • Shouldn’t require further mixing (but watch levels!)
  • Watch out for ground loops (HUM), use isolation transformer.
