Foldback, Playback and Feedback

Foldback

• Part of the program we send back to the talent. Examples:
  • Telephone caller back to host and guests of chat show.
  • Singer back to band.

Playback

• Pre-produced program material we send back to talent. Examples:
  • Prerecorded show open and close.
  • Roll-ins
  • “Tracks” (pre-produced music) to perform to.

Feedback

• Acoustical “Howling”
• Caused by: Signal entering microphone, being amplified, and coming out through speaker,
• and then back to microphone ...
• Not Caused by: Microphones next to each other (like video and PA).
• Sometimes caused by talent moving or covering directional vents in microphone.
