Introduction

I made my second trip to Europe (England and Paris) in late September and early October 1996. I had gone to Europe nine years before and visited London, Luxembourg (briefly), Germany and Austria. I was encouraged to take this trip by the parents of my friend Melva Lou Drury, as they had just returned from Europe. It was on this first trip that I visited the Rieger Organ factory in Schwartzach, Austria and saw the Sunnyside SDA church organ under construction.

I made this trip in conjunction with an extended trip by Lacy Drury, daughter of my friends Melva Lou and Charlie Drury. Lacy is staying in Europe for about a year, and we traveled together during my 3 week trip (the first part of her trip).

My trip was paid for by Intel as part of the Big Kahuna Bet reward to PTD employees for our last process development cycle. We had several targets to meet (or exceed) relating to performance to schedule and some measurements of the quality of the process, etc. Since many of these details involve Intel Secret information, I cannot reveal any specifics.

I packed one airline pilot style wheeled bag that fits in overhead or under the seat. It was pretty full and as usual, I discovered that several things I took I didn't really need. Conversely, there were some things I wish I had brought.
