We had lunch across the street from Windsor Castle at Pizza Hut and had a good American style pizza. On our way in to Windsor we saw the signs pointing to Lego Land (and we saw a little brochure at the hostel advertising it). According to the Lego FAQ, this particular Lego Land was just opened this year. Even though it is mostly for children, they have a section called Mini Land where they have built hundreds of buildings out of Legos. They apparently make special colors and shapes to more faithfully reproduce such buildings as the Houses of Parliament with the clock tower (Big Ben), the Eiffel Tower, Sacre Couér (Sacred Heart Cathedral) and many other famous and representative buildings from all over Europe (and some from America). The buildings were nicely accessorized with figures of people, live landscaping (including bonsai trees), and vehicles of every description. |

The remarkable part (apart from the amazing buildings made from hundreds of thousands of Lego pieces) was the free-moving vehicles which used self-contained batteries and followed buried wires. They had little trucks and busses that made regular routes around the little streets. I didn't see any cars or pickup trucks moving, perhaps because the required mechanism is too big to hide in these small models. Of course there were also scale model trains, some with functioning switching yards featuring turntables and lateral switches. |

Boats, ships, and other water craft were not left out either. Many of these sailed around the water tethered to a moving cable at the bottom of the pool. The most remarkable was the three step locks which was completely functional and featured a cabin cruiser which made its way down and back up the locks as part of its regular circuit. |

Oh, and we also had fresh-baked waffles with berry jam or chocolate and whipped cream. You can guess which one I had! |
