On Sunday we drove most of the day north on M6 to the Lake Country. Several of our fellow travelers at the Windsor Youth Hostel recommended the Ambleside Youth Hostel and indeed there was a big color poster of it hanging in the dining room at Windsor. It is a former Victorian era hotel situated right on the shore at the north end of Lake Windemere, the largest lake in England. It was a very nicely remodeled (and maintained) hostel, apparently the flagship hostel in northern (if not all) England. We stayed there for three nights and during our stay the Youth Hostel Association had a convention of hostel managers there.
