Lake Windemere

Photo 1: Along Lake Windemere
On Monday we took the motorboat trips on Lake Windemere. The lake is 13 miles long, about 250 feet deep, and has eight small to minuscule islands in the central part. The dock at Ambleside was right next door to the hostel and we took the first morning cruise with about 4 other passengers in a tour boat which seats about 100. The scenery around the lake was very beautiful with all the green hills ("mountains" by British standards.)

Photo 2: Two of the tour craft.
Photo 2 shows two of the boats which take tourists up and down Lake Windemere. The small one in the foreground took us from Ambleside to Bowness. Behind it is the middle-size ship which takes the mid-lake island tour. The large ship (which commutes between Bowness and Lakeside) is not shown.

Photo 3: View from the road north of
Keswick.
Photo 3 shows the view from the road as we returned from Keswick to Ambleside. It had been extremely foggy in the morning and raining most of the day, but the sun broke out just as we were leaving Keswick to return to Ambleside.
