Beatrix Potter Attraction

Back in Bowness we walked around the town a bit and visited the Beatrix Potter Attraction. This modern display starts with a multi screen (video matrix) introduction of Beatrix Potter's life and works. The recorded sound track is in English, with four other languages available on headphones. The main part of the attraction is a winding path through life size (by Beatrix Potter's method!) scenes from the books. Even though I haven't read all the books, I found the tableaux very well done, quite amusing and very faithful to the illustrations in the books. At the exit we found ourselves in the (seemingly requisite) gift shop with an extraordinary array of Beatrix Potter books in many different editions and a dizzying variety other Beatrix Potter stuff.

After taking the boat back up to Ambleside we had dinner in the hostel cafeteria and watched some British television in the lounge. When I expressed surprise at seeing a soccer player grab the ball and run with it, I was informed that we were watching a Rugby game, oh well. We saw some better than average documentaries and educational shows, but they also have their share of prime time soap operas and goofy game shows. While watching a nearly incomprehensible standup comic, I asked the native next to me to explain what the funny bit was. He replied that he didn't understand it either(!)
