Since we couldn't get tickets for the Reduced Shakespeare Theater that evening, we went to a concert by the Primavera Chamber Orchestra at St. Martin in the Fields. Since we decided on the concert so late, we ended up with tickets up in the balcony right up at the front overlooking the musicians. They played a very satisfying concert of old familiar war-horses, namely:
  • Pachelbel: Kanon & Gigue
  • Bach: Concert for 2 Violins in D minor BWV 1043
(same work as my favorite concerto for two harpsichords)
  • Mozart: Divertimento in D major K 136
  • Vivaldi: Four Seasons Op.8 numbers 1 thru 4

Of course the resident group, the Academey of St. Martin-in-the-Fields (conducted by Nevile Marriner) is the most-recorded chamber orchestra in the world. I was pleasantly suprised to see that the income from these concerts is used to support the Social Care unit of the church.
