Photo 1: Electric double-deck tram car, used from 1910 until 1952.
While Lacy went off to make some phone calls and conduct other business for her trip, I went to the London Transport Museum. They have a very nice modern museum right across from the Covent Gardens shopping center. A large part of the exhibit are actual restored rolling stock all the way from the days of horse-drawn vehicles up to modern double-deck busses and Underground train cars.

Photo 2: Underground driving motor car, used from 1938 until 1988.
The museum featured lots of interesting exhibits of switching and signaling systems, and computer-driven simulators for both the old and the current version of the Underground train driver's perspective.

Photo 3: Optare Minibus, used from 1986  until 1991. Based on Volkswagen chassis.
They are starting to use more of these minibuses to cover the suburbs which are not served by the Underground or by regular bus routes. We rode one like this to and from Rotherhithe. The Transport Authority used a fleet of these minibuses to replace the Underground route which covers Rotherhithe and destinations south of the Thames river.

Photo 4: My favorite Underground Poster. This poster was displayed extensively through-out the system during my first trip in 1985.
In the obligatory gift shop at the exit, I found some reproductions of the posters they use in the stations to promote travel by Underground. During my first visit, they were using the Kew Gardens poster to advertise their new service out to Kew. (Actually just an extension of the Underground service on existing, above-ground British Rail tracks.)
