![]() Photo 1: Festival Disney "Mall" at night |
After the park closed on Wednesday
(at 6:00pm), we went across the plaza to the Festival Disney
entertainment center. It is like a strip mall of shops, restaurants and night clubs (in
the tradition of "Pleasure Island" in Orlando). The space between the shops has
strings of lights stretched across in a geometric pattern. (See picture at left). The
"anchor tenant" is a large Planet Hollywood club and downstairs is "Buffalo
Bill's Wild West Show". We noticed that there was an "American Café" on
the other side from Planet Hollywood which had such American delicacies as pancakes,
waffles, and French Toast. Wednesday night we went to one of the Cyber Café's that Lacy found in the guidebook. We searched up and down the streets that come into a large 6-way intersection. We finally found it up on the third level ("second floor") of a mostly dark shopping center. It looked like an abandoned bar where they had removed the tables along one side and replaced them with computer stations. We went in and they showed us to a modern PC and started up a French edition of Netscape for us. They had French ("AZERTY") keyboards, but they kindly offered to switch to an English one. I don't know what kind of Internet connection their LAN had, but I was surprised that access to web pages from European servers seemed just as slow as it is from Oregon. I showed Lacy around some of the things she was interested in and we checked the Disneyland Paris FAQ to see if there was a more recent version than my hard copy (there wasn't). Being very hungry at this point, we stopped at a sidewalk bar/café and had dinner. After we ordered, we determined that instead of just an order of French fries (pomme frits), we had ordered Steak and fries! We called the waiter over and when he understood our message, he instantly ran back to the kitchen. We couldn't tell exactly what would happen, but he brought us want we wanted, not what we had ordered. For his effort beyond the call of duty (and to counteract the dumb American tourist image) I left him a 100% tip. He shouted "Merci Bocou" and saluted us as we left. I think we made his evening! |
