Controlling the Sound |
| Telephone
Patch |
| How to
Use It |
Using the Telephone Patch can be
tricky, but here is some helpful info.
- FEEDBACK
- Why does it happen?
- Because the Telephone
Patch does not perfectly cancel what we
feed the caller from what we get from the
caller.
- A participant speaks
into an open mic, it is fed to the phone
line, but some comes back into the
speaker.
- What can we do to
minimize it?
- Minimize the
number of microphones which feed the
Patch
- Try to keep it
to the moderator/host only
- This minimizes
the number of microphones which
can contribute to feedback.
- Monitor
speaker optimization
- Position the
speaker so the participants can
hear, but not be picked up in
their mics.
- Keep the level
low enough that it can be heard,
but not echo around the studio.
- OPERATION
- Always test the Telephone
Patch before the program starts!
- "Jockey" the mixer
so that:
- When the caller is
talking most (or all) the studio mics are
down (or off).
- When the studio
participants are talking, the phone is
down (or off)
