Most microphones used for television and recording are dynamic or condenser.
Other types (like carbon and crystal) are rare and only used for special things (like telephones).

DYNAMIC MICROPHONES
- Characteristics
  - More rugged
  - Less sensitive - more mass to move
  - Do not require power
  - Narrower bandwidth

  - Less rugged
