The Nature of Sound
Conductance and Directionality

These basic physical properties of sound are important to know.
They will help you make inteligent decisions for microphone selection and application.

  1. Sound radiates from the source through the air.
  2. Sound can also be conducted through solids (walls, doors, glass)
  3. Source can be directional or omnidirectional.
  4. Loudness falls off over distance (inverse square law)
  5. High frequencies are more directional than low.
